of Big Bear Lake, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at the age of 78. The Stalcups moved to Big Bear in 1958 because Ed loved to ski and the beauty of the mountains. Ed always wanted to live in a place where he would like to vacation and so became a resident of Big Bear for 50 years.
Ed was a well-liked and respected teacher and coach at Big Bear High School for 36 years. He taught English, world history, speech and drivers education, while also coaching football, skiing, golf and volleyball. Ed served as the athletic director of the high school for 15 years. Many students thanked Ed for their introduction to “the friendly Pierres.” During summers, Ed built homes, delivered milk and sold encyclopedias in the Big Bear area.
An avid horseman all his life, Ed served on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s mounted posse search and rescue team and was an avid member of the Los Vaqueros riding club. He was a founding member of the Big Bear Ski club and a charter member of the Big Bear Presbyterian Church.
Ed is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlene Stalcup, and their five children, Kim and Dave Rich of Perris, Calif., Kirk and Annemeike Stalcup of Erwin Lake, Calif., Kris Stalcup of Big Bear Lake, Calif., Kent and Linda Stalcup and their daughters Quinn and Jessee of Big Bear Lake, Calif., and Karl and Sally Stalcup and their daughter Sophia of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. Location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Bear Presbyterian Church.
You were loved and will be sorely missed Big Ed. May you rest in peace.

" I'm going to miss you coach. Thanks for the memories, including your obsessive compulsions with the mulligan, the automatic two putt, the same piece of advice whether the ball went left or right, and all gimmees within 10 feet. I'll remember long nights in the garage banging golf balls and the first person who called me after every round. Thanks coach. Enjoy the back nine. "

" Mr. Stalcup not only was a great teacher and coach, but a great person. Thanks to his talents in public speaking he took me from not being able to give a one minute speech without almost passing out, to a career in the fire service where I spoke to community groups, schools, city councils etc. The world is a better place having had you in it, God bless the Stalcup family.
