Will this be the year for a big payoff at the Fishin’ for $50K Trout Derby?
The annual Trout Derby is Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, in Big Bear Lake. This is a family-friendly event with a chance to win big bucks. There are five tagged trout in the lake, each worth $10,000. Other tagged fish have great prizes attached.
In addition to the tagged fish, there are weight class awards. Adult male and female first-place finishers earn $500. Second-place garners $250 and third-place winners earn free entry into the 2020 derby.
Male and female children’s division winners receive $250 savings bonds. Second-place kids earn $100 savings bonds. And third-place winners receive a free entry into the 2020 tournament plus a fishing rod.
Participating marinas include Big Bear Marina, Captain John’s Fawn Harbor & Marina, Holloway’s Marina, North Shore Landing and Pine Knot Marina. The official sponsor is Big Bear Sporting Goods.
Entry fee is $80 for adults age 16 and older and $30 for children age 15 and younger. First responders, and active and retired military receive $20 off individual entry. Big Bear residents and second homeowners receive $10 off individual entry. There is also a family discount — 50 percent off one child’s entry with any adult entry paid at full price.
Each contestant receives a free jar of bait, a wristband that provides discounts at participating Big Bear restaurants, shops and specialty services, and one opportunity drawing ticket.
