Airport terminal project, Aug. 14, 2019

Big Bear Airport District board member Bill Goddard expresses his skepticism regarding a proposed pre-engineered building project for a new terminal during a meeting in March.

Ask members of the Big Bear Airport District board of directors and the answer is the same. They aren’t going to rush into a decision about the fate of the airport terminal building this time around.

When the board went back to the drawing board in December 2018 because of prohibitive costs associated with retrofitting the terminal building, several options were considered. The board has considered tearing the building down and constructing a new, smaller footprint. Funding and construction sources from Request for Proposals to utilizing Sourcewell as a public works project have been reviewed.

The board decided not to move forward with any option until hard costs could be determined for each option.

A week ago the board met in a special session to discuss the options further. Two board members — Rick Seifert and Bill Goddard — voted against a new terminal building.
