A Sugarloaf woman died after crashing her car into the mountainside on Highway 38 near Onyx Summit on June 22.

Sharon Phelps, 69, died at the scene of the solo vehicle crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 6:35 p.m. north of Onyx Summit.

Phelps was northbound on Highway 38 when for an unknown reason she lost control of her 2005 Honda Civic and crossed into the southbound lane, according to the CHP. The vehicle hit the hillside and rolled over landing on its roof.

Phelps suffered major injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the CHP.
