Patients living in Bear Valley Community Hospital’s skilled nursing facility will soon enjoy a quieter in-room experience thanks to fundraising by the hospital’s foundation.
Volunteers from the Bear Valley Community Hospital District Foundation handed the hospital district’s board of directors a $15,000 check on July 11 to help pay for new pillow-top speakers and televisions. The Gen4 pillow speakers will provide the 20 long-term patients a private TV experience. Currently, TV speakers blare out in the open hallways.
Each unit costs $1,700, bringing the total cost of funding the unit’s 20 beds to $34,000. Fundraising for the entertainment systems started in November.
Holly Elmer, president of the foundation, said next on the foundation’s radar is a wheelchair-accessible van that will allow patients, whose loved ones mostly live outside of town, to escape the isolation of the hospital’s four walls.
