UPDATE 11:38 am : The latest information from Bear Vealley Electric Service is that power should be restored between 1:30 and 2 pm.
Roads are open but chains are required.
UPDATE 8:40 am - Highway 38 has reopened San Bernardino County Fire used a snowcat to transport SoCal Edison crews to the site of a downed power pole on Old Control Road off Highway 38
Additionally the power feed coming from Lucerne Valley is out and being restored by SoCal Edison. Power should be back on by 10:30 or 11am
UPDATE 5:12am-According to the California Highway Patrol, Highway 38 is closed due to power lines down. Early reports indicate a snowplow may have tangled with low lines sagging under the weight of snow.
A hard closure is in effect and the power company has been notified . iIt"s unknown when the road will reopen or when power will be restored.
A winter storm dropped up to 16 inches of snow in Big Bear and it"snowing again as most of the Valley is in darkness.
Power is out across Big Bear based on reports on Socalmountains.com. It's unknown how widespread the outage is or the cause. The reports say power is out in the East Valley including Erwin Lake and Baldwin Lake, as well as Moonridge and Fawnskin.
Snow totals varied in different parts of Big Bear from 4-5 inches to 16 inches. The forecast calls for continued snow throughout Friday with clearing by Saturday.
Chain restrictions are in place for all roads leading into the mountains: Highways 38, 18 and 330. Chains are required on all vehicles except those with four-wheel or all- wheel drive and snow tires on all four wheels. All motorists must carry chains in their vehicles.
