86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, after a year-long illness. He was born in Atcheson, Kan. After moving to the Los Angeles area as a high school student, he was shipped to Europe by the Army during the last of World War II. Back home he worked for more than 30 years in a family machine shop business until his move to Big Bear Lake 33 years ago. His first wife of more than 25 years, Dorothy, had passed away and the children were grown. He married Ilse and together they owned and or managed several businesses in Big Bear as well as one in San Bernardino. Ilse passed away in 1989 and Der Weihnachts Markt was remodeled and expanded to become one of the premier locations in the Village. He and Lynne (his wife and manager) retired in 2005 when Loren (Fritz as the family calls him) sold the business location to Montgomery Bisson, his stepson, and Ilse's youngest.
He took great pride and satisfaction in his honorary title of the "Mayor of Pine Knot." His experiences in the realms of family, friends and business were his favorite things to recall.
He is survived by his wife, three children, seven stepchildren, grandkids and the wonderful memories that he leaves behind in the hearts of so many.
An informal gathering will be held to celebrate what he meant to each of us at Northwoods on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No flowers please.
