Charlene Marie Stalcup was born in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on April 21, 1935. She and her late husband, Ed, moved to Big Bear Lake in 1958, where Charlene continued to live until her death June 3, 2018.

Charlene was known to most everyone as the teacher, the face and the voice of Bear Valley Community Nursery School, Co-op in the Pines. She served as teacher for several generations of preschoolers from the early 1960s until her retirement after 44 years in 2014. She was a founding parent, a teacher and even taught her own grandchildren as Co-op Kids.

Charlene loved Big Bear Valley because she loved nature and celebrating the four seasons, which was evident as she decorated the family home related to the seasons. Charlene was proud of the family home even though it was funky, as her daughter Kim described it. The back yard was filled with Charlene's flowers, space for a horse and overlooked Big Bear Lake.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Stalcup. She is survived by their five children Kim Rich (Dave); Kirk Stalcup (Annemeike): Kris Stalcup (Gaile): Kent Stalcup (Linda); and Karl Stalcup (Sally); granddaughters Quinn, Jesse and Sophia; her sister Lynda Berendsen (Pieter) and nieces and nephews Lynn (Lora), Emma, Michele and Tim.

Services are planned Saturday, July 14, 2018, 2 p.m. at the Marina Resort in Big Bear Lake.
