George Lynch Grabe, a 41-year resident of Sugarloaf, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Blue Skies Manor of heart disease. He was 80 years old.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Beverly Grabe, his brother, Russell Grabe, and his daughter and three sons: Victoria Stevens and husband Jim Glogowski, George Grabe and wife Holly, Tim Grabe and wife Martha and James Grabe and wife Jennifer. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, Monica Bernal, Jessi Grabe, Alli Grabe, Emma Grabe, Gavin Grabe, Zoe Grabe and Brody Grabe.
George joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958 and medically retired as Staff Sergeant in 1971. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War. From there, he went back to college and got his teaching credential and master’s degree in counseling. He worked as a teacher and counselor for 32 years with Apple Valley Unified School District.
George was very involved in his community. He was a communicant member of Shepherd in the Pines Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Marine Corps League. He was also an active member for many years of the Lions Club and Elks Club.
For fun, George enjoyed sailing, travelling in his RV and spending time with his family.
A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held
June 15, 2019, at 11:30am at Shepherd in the Pines Lutheran Church at 42450 North Shore Drive in Big Bear Lake.
