The Big Bear Valley Historical Society’s general meeting is Thursday, June 13, at the Big Bear Discovery Center. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
Historian and author Rhea Tetley, who has written several books on Lake Arrowhead and Crestline, is the guest speaker. She will talk about the history of Lake Arrowhead and how Little Bear Lake was inspired by the building of the Bear Valley Dam, and how Lake Arrowhead Village was built by Benton Van Nuys.
She will also talk about the natural connection of the movie industry with the San Bernardino mountains, resulting in hundreds of movies being shot here; the intentional burning of the Village, resulted in the construction of a new Lake Arrowhead Village and more.
Refreshments are served and there is an opportunity drawing following the presentation. All the proceeds go to the Big Bear Museum.
