The school year is winding down. The Class of 2019 crosses the stage to receive diplomas on Friday, June 14. But before the school year ends, Big Bear High School athletes earned the final all-league and all-CIF recognition of the season.
Sophomore pitcher Lexie Duran was named to the all-CIF Division 6 team in softball. Duran was ranked second in the division with 222 strikeouts. She was also ranked ninth in batting average as a hitter with a .667 average.
Duran was also named to the all-Cross Valley League first team along with junior teammates Ashley Griffiths and Justyne Coyle. All-league second team honors went to junior Jada Hastings and freshman Kylie Huscka. Junior Joana Diaz earned all-league honorable mention.
Team honors in softball included Hastings as offensive MVP, and co-Bear of the Year honors to Duran and Coyle. Griffiths earned the team’s defensive MVP award.
Big Bear’s young baseball team also collected all-Cross Valley League honors. Juniors Tanner and Tyler Gump were named to the all-league first team. Junior Kyle Azevedo and sophomore James Ellsbery received second-team all-league honors. Senior David Ybarra was an honorable mention all-league player.
