What happened during the past six weeks is yesterday’s news. The varsity football season begins Friday, Oct. 5, at Twentynine Palms.

At 5-1, 1-0, the Bears sit on top of the De Anza League against a team that traditionally has been a tough opponent. The Wildcats are 2-3 in preseason. Big Bear coach Dave Griffiths said Friday’s game will be “one heck of a battle.” Twentynine Palms played some tough opponents in preseason, Griffiths said. Last season’s match-up between the Bears and Wildcats wasn’t typical, with Big Bear winning 37-0. Twentynine Palms is a very athletic team, Griffiths said.
