The pros turned out in big numbers for the first race in the three-race Rim Nordic Cross-Country Mountain Bike series July 8. Three laps on the longest course of the year proved to be a big challenge for the 12 athletes. Two did not finish the race.

Samuel Brehm of Bear Valley Bikes didn’t let the hot weather bother him. In winning the pro race, Brehm was the only rider to break the two-hour mark. His time of 1 hour, 57 minutes and 33.89 seconds gives him a nearly four-minute lead over Eric Bierman of Ninety-7 going into the second race of the series.

Other local riders who completed the pro race included Bear Valley Bikes’ Romolo Forcino, Stuart Gonzalez and Derek Hermon.
