Caltrans to close Arctic Circle in June, June 3, 2020

A rock scaling operation will take place in the Arctic Circle throughout the month of June with a full closure, according to Caltrans.

Motorists to and from Big Bear along State Route 18 from Running Springs need to find an alternate way during the month of June.

Caltrans plans to send maintenance crews to the Arctic Circle area of State Route 18 west of Bear Valley Dam for a rock scaling operation beginning Monday, June 8. The work will take place from postmile 37.0 to postmile 44.33.

A full closure is necessary for the scaling operation for the safety of motorists and the work crews. The closure runs  Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Work is expected to last through June 26.

Motorists are advised to use State Route 38 from Mentone or State Route 18 from Lucerne to Big Bear as alternate routes.
